The Dream That Refuses to Die
Getting older certainly has its benefits. The more life experiences you have, the wiser you become (or at least you should). You’ve laughed, cried, coasted, and thrived all the way to the person you are today. But getting older certainly has its disadvantages, especially physically. You may wake up in the morning and have a new crick or a new crack. You’re just not able to do the things you used to do when you were young. Then ultimately you are faced with the reality of death. Well… I’m holding out hope that I will not get to experience physical death as I have my eyes fixed on the sky for my Lord to come get me one day.
Death has always been humanity’s greatest enemy. No matter how powerful a king, how wealthy an empire, or how advanced a civilization becomes, every person eventually faces the same inescapable reality: death. From the earliest pages of history until today, mankind has searched for a way to overcome it. The methods have changed over the centuries, but the desire has never faded.
Scripture explains why that longing exists. Adam and Eve were created to enjoy perfect fellowship with God in a world untouched by death. It was only after sin entered the world that death followed. As Romans 5:12 states, “through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin.” Every funeral serves as a reminder that death is a consequence of humanity’s rebellion against the Creator.
The Lie That Started It All
Humanity’s pursuit of immortality did not begin in a laboratory. It began in a garden. Genesis presents a world free from death, disease, and decay. Adam and Eve lived in perfect fellowship with the Creator. God gave them every provision for life, including access to the Tree of Life, but He also established one boundary: they were forbidden to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The warning was unmistakable: “in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Genesis 2:17).
Then another voice entered the garden.
Rather than openly denying God, the serpent first questioned His Word: “Has God indeed said...?” (Genesis 3:1). Once doubt took root, Satan uttered the first recorded lie in Scripture: “You will not surely die” (Genesis 3:4).
Enter the birth of Gnosticism. Satan offered a completely different worldview. A worldview that stood in stark contrast to what God offered. The days of perfection were long gone, and the days of thorns, thistles, and death were upon us.
That same lie continues today. The headlines about longevity research reveal the enduring condition of the human heart. The serpent’s promise has simply traded ancient mythology for modern biotechnology. Forbidden fruit has become gene editing, regenerative medicine, and cellular reprogramming. The methods have changed, but the message has not: perhaps mankind can finally overcome death without returning to the God it rejected. Sike! As the lady from the Esurance commercial says, “that’s not how this works!”
Aging Could Soon Be Reversible???
One of the most revealing longevity headlines of the year emerged from the 2026 World Governments Summit in Dubai. Harvard geneticist David Sinclair addressed an audience of political leaders, business executives, and policymakers, arguing that aging itself may eventually become treatable—and perhaps even reversible. His presentation focused on epigenetic reprogramming, a rapidly developing field that seeks to restore cells to a younger biological state by resetting portions of their genetic programming. Sinclair suggested that aging should increasingly be viewed not as an unavoidable consequence of life but as a biological process that can potentially be modified. Even more striking, he noted that early human trials are already underway, signaling that this discussion has moved beyond theory into clinical application.
The First Reverse-Aging Therapy Enters Human Testing
If Sinclair’s presentation showed where longevity research hopes to go, another headline demonstrated how quickly it is moving. Scientists have launched the first human clinical trial involving a cellular reprogramming therapy designed to rejuvenate aging cells. Researchers are initially targeting an eye disease, hoping to restore damaged tissue while carefully evaluating both the treatment’s effectiveness and safety before considering broader applications.
Sounds harmless, right? Yeah, think again! I can see how this could be appealing to those that would like to get back to 20/20 vision. It’s certainly a selling point. Surely there would be no side effects. I mean when you watch pharmaceutical commercials the side effects for these drugs are only about two pages. Sure, why not risk it.
Existing Drugs May Be Repurposed for Longevity
Not every longevity breakthrough depends on revolutionary gene therapies. Researchers have recently identified aging-related genetic networks that may allow existing medications to be repurposed to influence the aging process. Rather than spending decades creating entirely new drugs, scientists are investigating whether medicines already approved for other conditions possess previously unknown longevity benefits. As one scientist says to another, “why not?”
The Biohacker “Immortality Olympics”
If it wasn’t already weird, now we are going to take it up a notch. Perhaps nowhere is this cultural shift more visible than in the rapidly expanding biohacker movement. Unlike traditional medical research, biohacking often involves rich people experimenting with highly specialized regimens in pursuit of longevity.
Bryan Johnson has become one of the most recognizable figures. He reportedly spends millions of dollars each year monitoring every aspect of his health. Physicians track his blood chemistry, hormones, cardiovascular function, sleep, metabolism, and organ health while he follows carefully controlled nutrition, exercise, supplementation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, plasma exchanges, and numerous other interventions designed to slow—or perhaps reverse—the aging process.
It’s ironic that these people are spending their time here on earth trying to defeat something that they will ultimately succumb too. Unfortunately, if they don’t accept the free gift of salvation only found through faith in Jesus Christ, they will suffer a second death that will be very unpleasant.
When Presidents Talk About Living Forever
One of the most fascinating examples occurred during China’s Victory Day military parade in September 2025. A live microphone reportedly captured part of a private conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Xi observed that people now speculate humans may someday live to 150 years, while Putin reportedly discussed advances in biotechnology and organ transplantation that could continually replace failing organs and perhaps even “achieve immortality.”
Putin’s Alleged $20 Billion Quest to Live Forever
The discussion surrounding Vladimir Putin extends beyond the comments reportedly captured in Beijing. Recent media reports have alleged that Russia has invested enormous financial resources into longevity initiatives exploring regenerative medicine, organ bioprinting, genetically modified agriculture, advanced transplantation techniques, and other experimental approaches intended to dramatically extend human lifespan. Some reports have gone even further, describing controversial therapies involving deer blood treatments and so-called "Frankenstein" laboratories.
The Tree of Life: Lost in Eden, Found in Revelation
In Genesis, we see humanity standing before the Tree of Life in Eden. In Revelation, we see redeemed humanity standing before that same tree in the New Jerusalem. After Adam and Eve sinned, God barred access to the Tree of Life, not as an act of cruelty, but of mercy. Had fallen humanity eaten from it, mankind would have lived forever under the curse. Imagine that. Eternity under the curse. Our God is merciful!
Ever since then, humanity has tried to recover what was lost. Alchemists searched for the elixir of life, explorers sought the famed Fountain of Youth (I do enjoy a good adventure movie), kings pursued remedies for mortality, and today laboratories sequence genomes while governments and billionaires fund longevity research. The methods have changed, but the objective remains the same: returning to the Tree of Life without returning to God.
In Revelation, John sees the Tree of Life, but this time access is restored because “there shall be no more curse” (Revelation 22:3). Humanity’s deepest problem is solved not by medicine or science but by Jesus Christ’s victory over sin and death.
