When we walk with the Lord

in the light of His Word,

what a glory He sheds on our way!

While we do His good will,

He abides with us still,

and with all who will trust and obey.

There is no safer or more glorious path than the one lit by the Word of God. In an age of confusion, disinformation, and spiritual deception, only those walking in the light of Scripture will see clearly. This stanza reminds us that God's presence is not found in rebellion or compromise, but in obedience. As 1 John 1:7 says, “if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another.” God's guidance and glory shine on those who choose the narrow road—the road of trust and obedience. In these final days, walking with the Lord means walking against the current of the world—but His presence abides with us every step of the way.

Not a burden we bear,

not a sorrow we share,

but our toil He doth richly repay;

not a grief or a loss,

not a frown or a cross,

but is blest if we trust and obey.

The Christian life doesn’t promise ease—but it does promise meaning. Every trial, burden, or sorrow carried in obedience becomes a vessel of blessing. Romans 8:18 assures us that the sufferings of this present time aren’t worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed. For the watchful believer, every grief endured in faith is sowing seeds for eternity. Our cross-bearing is never in vain—Christ sanctifies it when we trust Him. Even the smallest loss becomes an eternal investment when laid at His feet. In a time when many seek to avoid hardship at all costs, we are called to embrace obedience, knowing it is richly repaid.

But we never can prove

the delights of His love

until all on the altar we lay;

for the favor He shows,

for the joy He bestows,

are for them who will trust and obey.

This stanza speaks of surrender—the kind that costs us everything, but gives us everything in return. It’s a truth echoed throughout Scripture: true joy comes only when we yield fully to the Lord. Romans 12:1 calls us to present our bodies as living sacrifices. In these prophetic days, the Church is being sifted, and partial devotion will not withstand the storm. The Lord is calling a remnant—those who will put all on the altar. We cannot enjoy the depths of His love while holding back pieces of our lives. If we want His favor and joy, we must abandon all that competes with Him. The delights of His love are reserved for those who trust and obey.

Then in fellowship sweet

we will sit at His feet,

or we’ll walk by His side in the way;

what He says we will do,

where He sends we will go;

never fear, only trust and obey.

This final verse is a promise of communion—with Christ now, and with Him forever. Obedience is not cold duty; it is the pathway to intimacy. In the coming Kingdom, we will sit at His feet and walk by His side. But that kind of fellowship begins now, in a life yielded to Him. Revelation 3:20 reminds us that He stands at the door and knocks, longing for fellowship with those who will open their hearts. In a culture fueled by fear, this verse gives us marching orders for the days ahead: never fear—only trust and obey. As the prophetic clock ticks down, may we be found doing what He says and going where He sends.

Refrain

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way

to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Happiness in Jesus doesn’t come from knowing about Him—it comes from trusting and obeying Him. This simple refrain is the hymn’s heartbeat and its prophetic urgency. As the world searches for happiness through autonomy, rebellion, and counterfeit spirituality, the Church must proclaim the true source of joy: surrender. This message will become even more vital in the Tribulation to come, as those left behind will face impossible choices. But even then, the timeless command remains: trust and obey. For now, let this refrain be our anthem of resistance against the spirit of the age—and our declaration of allegiance to the coming King.
