A new Canadian government-commissioned report has revealed a deeply troubling reality for Jewish students on college campuses. According to the Campus Antisemitism and Student Experiences (CASE) study, 96% of Jewish university students surveyed said they had experienced or witnessed at least one antisemitic incident during the previous year. The report also found that 84% believe antisemitism is a serious problem on their campus, while 70% said their university has failed to take the issue seriously. Researchers concluded that hostility toward Jewish students has become normalized at some Canadian institutions, raising serious concerns about the climate of higher education.
The findings paint a disturbing picture of campus life in a nation long regarded as one of the world's most tolerant democracies. Jewish students reported harassment, intimidation, exclusion, and fear of openly expressing their identity, with many feeling that university administrators have not adequately addressed the growing hostility. The report comes amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents across Canada following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel, reinforcing concerns that anti-Jewish sentiment is becoming increasingly mainstream rather than remaining confined to the fringes of society.
