ADL Flags Anti-Zionist Ties in NYC Team

Dec 23, 2025

A new report from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has raised alarms over the makeup of New York mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s transition team, asserting that nearly 20 percent of its members have ties to anti-Zionist activism or records of hostile rhetoric toward Israel. According to the ADL, more than 80 of the 400 individuals named so far are linked to organizations such as Students for Justice in Palestine, Jewish Voice for Peace, and Within Our Lifetime—groups known for aggressive anti-Israel protests, including demonstrations outside synagogues. The report also highlights alleged connections between several appointees and Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, as well as social media posts that the ADL says appear to justify violence or praise the October 7 Hamas attacks.

The ADL notes that multiple members of the transition team supported or participated in anti-Israel campus encampments in 2024, with some rhetoric equating Zionism with racism, genocide, or even Nazism. While Mamdani has repeatedly stated his opposition to antisemitism and the ADL acknowledged that many appointees pose no concern, the organization concluded that the overall composition of the team is troubling. In a city with the largest Jewish population outside Israel, the ADL warned that these appointments appear to be “in tension” with the mayor-elect’s stated commitment to protecting Jewish residents—underscoring a broader cultural and political shift that continues to fuel rising antisemitism across the West.
