Artificial intelligence-powered attacks against critical infrastructure are no longer a future possibility—they are already happening, according to Gil Messing, chief of staff at Israeli cybersecurity company Check Point. His warning comes as more than 100 major companies have joined an international call for a fundamental change in how the world approaches cybersecurity, arguing that existing defenses are failing to keep pace with AI-enhanced threats. Messing said the arrival of increasingly powerful AI models has dramatically lowered the technical barriers required to conduct sophisticated cyberattacks. Capabilities that once demanded the resources and expertise of governments, intelligence agencies, or highly organized criminal groups can increasingly be accessed by smaller organizations and individuals with comparatively limited technical knowledge.
