Keep Watch!
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

While many headlines continue warning about artificial intelligence replacing jobs, a growing number of experts say the more immediate threat may be something even more invasive: AI-driven worker surveillance and control. A recent report argues that the real divide emerging in society is not simply between employed and unemployed workers, but between people who use AI to enhance their work and those who are increasingly managed, monitored, and judged by AI systems. In higher-paying professions, AI often functions like an assistant — helping lawyers, analysts, consultants, and managers automate repetitive tasks and increase productivity. But for millions of workers in warehouses, retail, transportation, customer service, and the gig economy, AI is becoming something far different: an invisible boss constantly tracking performance, movements, productivity, and behavior.
The report highlights how “bossware” technologies are already being widely deployed across workplaces, with AI systems determining work schedules, measuring employee efficiency, optimizing routes, monitoring keystrokes, and even evaluating whether workers are operating at maximum capacity. Researchers warn that these systems create environments where every click, pause, conversation, or movement can be recorded, analyzed, and graded by algorithms workers neither fully understand nor control. Companies like Amazon and Meta were specifically referenced as examples of corporations increasingly pressuring workers through AI-driven productivity systems while simultaneously collecting vast amounts of employee behavioral data. Experts fear these technologies will not remain confined to lower-wage industries but will eventually spread into offices, schools, hospitals, and nearly every sector of society.
The rapid expansion of AI-powered surveillance systems continues to reveal how quickly the infrastructure for large-scale monitoring and behavioral control is being normalized. What begins as “efficiency,” “optimization,” or “safety” often evolves into systems capable of tracking human behavior in real time with extraordinary precision. Scripture warns of a future world system built around control, commerce, compliance, and the ability to regulate participation in society itself. As AI increasingly becomes the gatekeeper of employment, productivity, identity, and access, the world is moving deeper into a technological framework where human freedom is gradually exchanged for automation, convenience, and centralized oversight.
