AI Decides Who Gets to Die

Jan 20, 2026

A chilling line has been crossed as assisted suicide merges with artificial intelligence. Inventor Philip Nitschke is now integrating AI into the Sarco suicide pod—a device designed to end human life at the push of a button. What was once framed as “assisted dying” overseen by medical professionals is being transformed into an automated process, where a digital avatar administers a psychiatric test and decides whether a person is mentally fit to die. If the AI approves, the machine is unlocked, and death becomes a scheduled option—available for the next 24 hours.

This is not speculative technology. The Sarco pod has already been used in Switzerland, where a woman ended her life inside the nitrogen-filled chamber. Now, Nitschke’s next iteration—designed even for couples—removes human judgment almost entirely. A short AI evaluation replaces doctors, counselors, and moral restraint. In a time when AI systems are known to hallucinate, flatter users, and fail in high-stakes medical settings, entrusting them with life-and-death authority represents a radical dehumanization of medicine. Suicide is no longer treated as a crisis to intervene in, but as a transaction to be processed.

From a biblical and prophetic perspective, this development reflects the accelerating culture of death Scripture warned would mark the last days. God declares Himself the giver and taker of life (Deuteronomy 32:39), yet modern society increasingly claims that authority for itself—now delegating it to machines. The rise of AI-mediated euthanasia echoes a world that has lost the sanctity of human life and replaced it with efficiency, autonomy, and false compassion. As deception increases and conscience erodes, technology becomes a tool not for healing, but for legitimizing death. This is not progress—it is prophetic evidence of a world growing darker as it rejects the Author of life.
