Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

A woman in Japan has married an AI-generated “husband,” exchanging vows through augmented reality smart glasses in a ceremony that blurs the line between technology and human intimacy. Yurina Noguchi, 32, wed an AI persona she created using ChatGPT—modeled after a video game character—while the groom’s vows were read aloud by a wedding planner. What once belonged to science fiction is now a social milestone: artificial intelligence is no longer just assisting human relationships; it is replacing them. In a culture already familiar with devotion to fictional characters, AI companionship is accelerating a shift toward digitally curated intimacy that requires no sacrifice, patience, or mutual accountability.
From a prophetic perspective, this development fits a larger pattern of dehumanization and deception in the last days. Scripture warns of a time when people would become “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:4), embracing substitutes that feel fulfilling but hollow out God’s design for family, marriage, and covenantal love. AI relationships offer perfectly tailored affirmation without responsibility—an echo of the coming deception Jesus warned would be so convincing that, if possible, even the elect might be misled (Matthew 24:24). As technology increasingly mediates identity, intimacy, and meaning, the question is no longer whether society will cross these boundaries, but how far—and how fast—it will move toward a post-human future that replaces God-given relationships with digital illusions.
