Just over a week before Rosh Hashanah begins the Jewish High Holiday season, synagogues across the United States are strengthening security amid the continuing threat of antisemitic violence. FBI data for 2025 recorded 1,528 anti-Jewish hate-crime incidents, representing nearly two-thirds of all religion-based hate crimes reported nationwide. Although that number declined from 1,938 incidents in 2024, it remained the third-highest annual total on record. The disproportion is particularly striking considering Jews comprise only about 2% of the U.S. population. As thousands prepare to gather for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, worship increasingly comes with armed security, surveillance cameras, emergency plans, locked doors, and police coordination.
