Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled an ambitious vision for the future of artificial intelligence in which billions of people could eventually have their own personal "superintelligent, all-knowing" AI agent. In a lengthy manifesto titled The Future Is for Everyone, Zuckerberg described AI assistants that would know their users deeply, understand their goals and preferences, and remain continuously available to help them learn, create, communicate, and navigate everyday life. Meta's vision extends beyond a chatbot sitting on a computer screen. Zuckerberg sees AI becoming increasingly integrated into devices such as smart glasses, creating an always-present digital companion capable of seeing what users see, hearing what they hear, remembering information, and providing personalized assistance throughout the day.
Zuckerberg argues that this extraordinary level of artificial intelligence should not remain concentrated in the hands of governments or a handful of powerful corporations. Instead, he envisions distributing superintelligent AI broadly, giving ordinary individuals what he describes as "invention superpowers." Meta is consequently investing enormous resources into AI models, computing infrastructure, and wearable technology designed to make these personalized agents part of everyday life. The potential benefits are enormous, but so are the questions. A digital assistant that knows your conversations, relationships, interests, location, habits, purchases, preferences, and ambitions could become one of the most intimate repositories of personal information ever created. The more people rely upon such systems to advise them, communicate for them, and make decisions on their behalf, the more power those systems—and whoever ultimately controls their infrastructure—could possess.
