Antisemitism Surges in Argentina and Beyond

Jun 20, 2025

Argentina witnessed a 15 percent rise in antisemitic incidents last year, fueled in part by the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks on Israel and the subsequent conflict in Gaza. According to the 2024 Annual Report on Antisemitism released by the Delegation of Argentine Israelite Associations (DAIA), 687 antisemitic acts were recorded, up from 598 the previous year. Much of this surge occurred online, with platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook serving as major channels for hate speech. However, the report also highlighted increases in public displays of antisemitism, including in schools and neighborhoods. DAIA emphasized that behind each statistic lies a personal story and a lasting impact on individuals and communities, warning that “hate may change its form, but it never truly disappears.”

The report found that 66 percent of incidents were digital, featuring a disturbing rise in Nazi symbols and conspiracy theories. Physical assaults rose by 34 percent, particularly in community settings like schools. Nearly 40 percent of the hate crimes referenced the war in Gaza, while almost a quarter involved explicit Nazi imagery. Argentina’s alarming trend mirrors a global spike in antisemitism: incidents rose 340 percent worldwide compared to 2022. The United States saw a 288 percent increase, Canada 562 percent, and several European nations recorded surges of over 350 percent. Argentina, under President Javier Milei—an outspoken supporter of Israel—has become increasingly active in combating antisemitism. The country recently hosted an international summit where over 30 nations adopted global guidelines to counter this growing threat, underscoring Argentina’s emerging role in the global fight against hatred and extremism.
