Ark of the Covenant Site Possibly Found

Aug 5, 2025

Archaeologists in Israel believe they may have uncovered the location where the Ark of the Covenant once rested. The sacred, gold-covered chest described in the Bible — said to hold the Ten Commandments given to Moses — was kept in the Tabernacle, a portable sanctuary used by the Israelites after their Exodus from Egypt. The Ark’s ultimate fate remains one of history’s enduring mysteries, disappearing from the biblical narrative prior to the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC.

At the ancient site of Shiloh, a team led by Dr. Scott Stripling has uncovered a monumental stone structure from the Iron I period that appears to match the Bible’s description of the Tabernacle in both dimensions and orientation. Excavations revealed more than 100,000 animal bones — mostly from the right side of sheep, goats, and cattle — consistent with Leviticus 7’s instructions for priestly offerings. Pottery from the same era further ties the site to the nearly 400 years the Bible says the Tabernacle remained in Shiloh before the Temple’s construction in Jerusalem. Dr. Stripling calls the match between the findings and Scripture “too precise to ignore.”
