As antisemitic violence continues to rise around the world, Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli is now urging Jewish communities abroad to establish armed security forces capable of defending their synagogues, schools, and institutions. Speaking at the JNS International Policy Summit in Jerusalem, Chikli argued that unarmed security measures are no longer sufficient in an age of growing terrorism and targeted attacks against Jewish communities. His comments came in the aftermath of deadly violence in Montreal and follow repeated attacks against Jewish schools, institutions, and individuals in countries such as Canada, Australia, and the United States.
Chikli warned that governments have failed to recognize the growing threat of radical antisemitism and Islamist extremism. He pointed to attacks in Canada and Australia as evidence that early warning signs have been ignored, allowing hatred toward the Jewish people to spread openly. The minister also expressed concern over a developing geopolitical alignment involving Turkey, Qatar, Syria, and Muslim Brotherhood movements, which he believes could create new regional threats to Israel. At the same time, he emphasized that sanctions against Iran should remain in place, arguing that any financial relief would ultimately strengthen terrorism and instability throughout the Middle East.
