One of its key partners in this initiative is Anthropic, the AI research company backed by Amazon. While AWS and Anthropic have not publicly commented, the marketplace will serve as a centralized hub for enterprises to discover and implement AI agents — autonomous software programs that use AI models to perform tasks and make decisions independently.

This move aims to solve a major distribution issue in the rapidly expanding world of AI agents, which are often siloed within individual platforms. With this new marketplace, AWS will allow startups to offer their AI agents directly to customers while enabling businesses to easily browse and deploy solutions tailored to their needs. For Anthropic — which already builds agents in-house and allows developers to create their own using its API — this could mean a significant boost in visibility and adoption, especially as it eyes additional multibillion-dollar investments from Amazon.
