Baylor's Betrayal: Trading Truth for Grants

Jul 9, 2025

Baylor University, founded in 1845 as a beacon of Christian truth and biblical education, now serves as a sobering reminder of what happens when sacred convictions are traded for cultural approval. Once a school grounded in Scripture and covenantal faithfulness, Baylor has accepted a $643,401 grant from the liberal Baugh Foundation to promote LGBTQ+ “inclusion and belonging” within churches—not just in society or academia, but in pulpits and pews. What was once called compromise is now paraded as courage, while biblical fidelity is dismissed as exclusionary. Instead of calling sinners to repentance, Baylor’s School of Social Work is training students to affirm sin under the guise of trauma-informed care and so-called “inclusive theology.”

The initiative seeks to influence churches directly by producing “trauma-sensitive” resources, hosting interviews with young adults, and pushing congregations to embrace LGBTQ+ identities—all while cloaking it in therapeutic jargon and research. Critics, including pastors Denny Burk and Matt Kennedy, are calling out this betrayal of Baylor’s biblical heritage, warning that wolves in shepherds’ clothing now lead the charge. Sadly, Baylor isn’t alone. It joins a growing list of once-faithful institutions—Azusa Pacific, Seattle Pacific, Calvin University—that are trading Scripture for social currency. True Christian education must stand on the unchanging Word of God, not the ever-shifting winds of culture. We must have the courage to say: God’s truth is not for sale. Not for $643,000. Not ever.
