Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

A bold manifesto from Fehmi Vergili, Co-President of the European Syriac Union, calls for a national renaissance of the peoples of Beth Nahrin—Mesopotamia’s ancient heirs stretching from Akkad and Babylon to Assyria, Aram, and the Syriacs. The declaration rejects centuries of imposed fragmentation and historical erasure, arguing that artificial labels and divisions were engineered to weaken a single people with a continuous civilizational line. This revival is framed not as nostalgia, but as living resistance—political, cultural, and moral—demanding accountability and unity in the present.
Central to the movement is language as destiny. Syriac and Aramaic are presented not merely as liturgical artifacts, but as engines of continuity, land, and future. The diaspora is recast from dispersion to organized front, with youth as the vanguard—educated, fearless, and grounded in history rather than folklore. The manifesto insists that Assyrian-Syriac-Aramean unity is essential for national liberation, concluding that Beth Nahrin’s resurgence is not only a reclaiming of memory, but a necessary witness to humanity itself—an urgent call to organize, speak, and act now.
