A recent three-night performance of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl ignited widespread backlash across social media, particularly among Christians, after bisexual black actress Cynthia Erivo was cast as Jesus Christ. The August 1–3 production also featured openly gay singer Adam Lambert as Judas Iscariot, further fueling criticism. Actor Kevin Sorbo shared a video on X showing Erivo wearing a crown of thorns while carrying a crossbeam, calling the display “demonic.” Other users noted Erivo’s talon-like nails and intentionally bald appearance, drawing comparisons to demonic imagery and even the vampire Nosferatu from early horror cinema.

This production is not just artistic license—it is outright blasphemy and a calculated mockery of the Christian faith. Portraying Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, with a deliberately provocative and anti-biblical image is nothing short of a spit in the face to believers around the world. It distorts the truth of the Gospel, desecrates sacred imagery, and weaponizes identity politics in a direct assault on Christian doctrine. This isn’t about diversity—it’s about depravity. It’s an attempt to twist and pervert the holiness of Christ for shock value, entertainment, and cultural rebellion. As Christians, we must stand boldly against such godless mockery and call it what it is: an intentional attack on the Lord we worship.
