Canada Facing Antisemitic Surge

Canada’s Jewish community is facing what many are calling an unprecedented wave of antisemitic violence as attacks continue to surge across the country in 2026. According to B’nai Brith Canada, the nation has already recorded more violent antisemitic incidents in the first five months of this year than in all of 2025 combined. The organization warned that Jewish Canadians are now living through “the most violent year in recent memory,” citing at least 11 violent attacks nationwide since January. The latest incident occurred outside a Toronto synagogue where three Jewish individuals were reportedly shot at with a gel blaster firearm as they exited evening services. The attack follows a growing list of assaults, vandalism, threats, and synagogue-targeted incidents spreading across Canada.

B’nai Brith leaders say the situation has moved far beyond isolated hate crimes and is becoming a normalized cultural crisis. The organization described antisemitism as having “metastasized” throughout Canadian society, warning that governments have failed to adequately confront the growing hostility. Officials noted that Canada recorded a staggering 6,800 antisemitic incidents in 2025 alone — an average of nearly 19 incidents every single day. The rapid escalation prompted B’nai Brith to release preliminary 2026 data early, an unusual step meant to sound the alarm over what they describe as Jewish Canadians being “terrorized.” Calls are now growing for the federal government to establish an emergency task force to address the crisis before conditions worsen further.
