Cartels Declare War on Christians

Christian persecution is no longer confined to distant dictatorships or extremist-controlled regions overseas. According to Open Doors US CEO Ryan Brown, parts of Mexico are experiencing escalating attacks against Christians at the hands of powerful drug cartels that view the church as a direct threat to their operations. Speaking with BlazeTV host Allie Beth Stuckey, Brown explained that Christianity undermines cartel influence by keeping young people away from organized crime, drug use, and alcohol addiction. As a result, believers, pastors, and entire churches are increasingly being targeted through threats, kidnappings, intimidation, and outright violence designed to silence the spread of the Gospel.

Brown recounted one horrifying incident in which cartel members stormed a church “with guns blazing,” forcing believers from their homes and imprisoning them in a school building for ten days under inhumane conditions. According to the testimony, the captives were denied water, forced to drink from puddles, and given only a single bucket to use as a restroom while cartel leaders attempted to publicly humiliate and terrorize the Christian community. Beyond isolated attacks, Brown also described what is being called the “Circle of Silence,” a region spanning several Mexican states where cartels have allegedly worked aggressively to suppress Christian influence and eliminate visible church presence altogether.

The growing hostility toward Christianity in Mexico is another sobering reminder that spiritual darkness does not tolerate the light of the Gospel. Scripture warned that believers would face persecution, hatred, and opposition in the last days, not only from governments but from violent and lawless forces operating under the influence of evil. Across the world, Christians are increasingly finding themselves caught between collapsing morality, organized violence, and rising hostility toward biblical truth. While much of the world celebrates spiritual compromise and silence, faithful believers continue to stand as a restraint against corruption and wickedness — and that makes them targets.
