Keep Watch!
Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

A significant spiritual and geopolitical rift has surfaced in Jerusalem as the Catholic Church, joined by Eastern Catholic, Orthodox, and historic denominations, issued a formal condemnation of Christian Zionism. In their January 17 statement, the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in the Holy Land framed evangelical Christian support for Israel as a “damaging ideology,” accusing it of misleading believers, sowing confusion, and undermining church unity. The declaration asserts exclusive ecclesiastical authority over Christian life in the land and sharply rebukes interpretations of Scripture that affirm Israel’s modern restoration.
The statement goes further, charging that Christian Zionists have found favor among political leaders in Israel and abroad, and that such engagement constitutes improper interference in the internal life of the churches. By invoking passages such as Romans 12:5, the coalition argues that any theology operating outside historic church structures wounds the unity of the faithful. In effect, the statement draws a hard line: support for Israel grounded in biblical covenant theology is portrayed not merely as mistaken, but as a threat to Christian witness and continuity in the region.
Scripture repeatedly warns that in the last days Israel will become a point of division—not only among nations, but within religious institutions themselves (Zechariah 12:2–3; Luke 21:24). The growing hostility toward Christian Zionism reflects a broader rejection of God’s enduring promises to Israel in favor of replacement theology and centralized religious authority. As alliances form to pressure Israel politically and spiritually, believers should recognize the pattern Scripture foretold: a world pushing back against God’s covenant purposes as history moves toward its prophetic climax.
