In their January 17 statement, the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in the Holy Land framed evangelical Christian support for Israel as a “damaging ideology,” accusing it of misleading believers, sowing confusion, and undermining church unity. The declaration asserts exclusive ecclesiastical authority over Christian life in the land and sharply rebukes interpretations of Scripture that affirm Israel’s modern restoration.

The statement goes further, charging that Christian Zionists have found favor among political leaders in Israel and abroad, and that such engagement constitutes improper interference in the internal life of the churches. By invoking passages such as Romans 12:5, the coalition argues that any theology operating outside historic church structures wounds the unity of the faithful.
