China Rapidly Closes AI Power Gap

Aug 6, 2025

China is rapidly closing the gap in artificial intelligence development, narrowing the lead historically held by the United States. While the U.S. still leads with 40 notable AI models compared to China’s 15, a new report from Stanford’s AI Index shows that China’s advancements in AI quality are accelerating. Experts like Gregory Allen from the Center for Strategic and International Studies warn that China could catch up quickly if the U.S. becomes complacent. David Sacks, the White House’s AI and Crypto Czar, noted that the performance edge may now be just 3 to 6 months—a sobering sign in a tech race with massive global implications.

Recent testing has shown striking improvements in AI performance across the board, especially in areas like reasoning and advanced science, where models have improved by over 40% in some cases. Chinese models are catching up at an alarming pace—in language understanding, the U.S. advantage shrank from 17.5% to 0.3% in just one year. In general reasoning, the gap dropped to 8.1%. Most notably, China’s DeepSeek-R1 outperformed every American model in a top-tier language test. These rapid developments raise not just technological concerns but prophetic ones as well, as global AI dominance could play a significant role in the coming infrastructure of the Beast system outlined in Revelation 13.
