According to the report, the system integrates facial recognition, travel records, mobile payments, social connections, shopping habits, fuel purchases, and even train seat assignments into a centralized tracking network capable of monitoring citizens and foreigners with extraordinary precision. The leaked data reportedly included detailed personal records of foreign journalists in Beijing, complete with passport photos, phone numbers, visa information, and movement histories.
The surveillance infrastructure goes far beyond traditional CCTV cameras. China’s “Bright Eyes” initiative seeks to merge countless monitoring systems into one massive predictive policing network powered by AI algorithms and real-time analytics.
