A troubling pattern is drawing global attention as reports emerge of mysterious deaths involving Chinese scientists working in highly sensitive military and technology sectors. One of the most notable cases was Feng Yanghe, a rising star in China’s artificial intelligence defense program, who reportedly died in an unexplained car crash in Beijing at just 38 years old. Feng had been involved in war-game scenarios related to a possible Taiwan invasion and was known for developing the advanced “War Skull” platform.
Questions surrounding his death only deepened after a state-linked obituary reportedly described him as having been “sacrificed.” Observers also noted that he was buried in a prestigious cemetery reserved for Communist Party elites, national heroes, and revolutionary martyrs. Feng’s case is said to be one of several sudden deaths involving Chinese experts tied to military AI, hypersonic weapons, space defense, and other strategic technologies. Reports indicate at least nine such cases in China, prompting growing speculation about what may be happening behind the scenes.
The reports have drawn comparisons to unexplained deaths and disappearances involving scientists in the United States, where multiple incidents have also raised concern. Some military analysts are now asking whether a hidden “scientist war” is taking place, targeting top minds connected to national defense and next-generation weapons systems. Whether these events stem from espionage, internal purges, accidents, or something else, the pattern reflects an increasingly dangerous global contest for technological dominance.
