Christian Camp Faces Gender Policy Fight

May 16, 2025

As summer approaches and thousands of children prepare to attend Christian camps rooted in Gospel truth and discipleship, Camp IdRaHaJe in Colorado has become the center of a legal and spiritual storm. Founded in 1948, the camp now faces pressure from the state to allow biological males who identify as female to access girls’ showers, dressing areas, and sleeping quarters. The camp's stance, based on biblical teaching that God created humans male and female, has resulted in a denied exemption from a state mandate tied to gender identity access. Backed by Alliance Defending Freedom, Camp IdRaHaJe filed a federal lawsuit on May 13, asserting that the regulation violates the First and Fourteenth Amendments by forcing a Christian ministry to compromise its convictions.

The implications of this case stretch far beyond one camp. If Colorado's policy is upheld, similar mandates could sweep across the nation, targeting Christian schools, churches, and ministries. This is not a matter of political disagreement; it is a battle over religious liberty and the authority of God’s Word in public life. The camp’s refusal to compromise is a bold stand for truth, but they cannot stand alone. Now is the time for the Church to wake up, prepare, and defend the right to operate ministries in accordance with Scripture. If Christian institutions are forced to choose between biblical convictions and legal survival, the future of faith-based youth discipleship in America hangs in the balance.
