Christian Persecution Skyrockets in India

Nov 20, 2025

Christian persecution in India has reached alarming new heights, prompting multiple advocacy groups to call for a national convention on November 29 to address the crisis. The urgency comes after a series of violent incidents, including a horrific event in Haryana where Christian villagers were forced to publicly burn their Bibles and renounce their faith under threats from a Hindu nationalist. According to a new report released November 4, hate crimes against Christians have surged by an astonishing 500% since 2014, with documented attacks rising from 139 incidents to 834 in just a decade—impacting nearly 5,000 families. This explosion of hostility reflects a growing climate of intimidation, fueled by radical nationalism and rampant police inaction.

Organizers of the upcoming convention—titled “Towards a Self-Reliant, Progressive, and United India”—stress that the gathering is not a political movement, but a constitutional appeal to protect the rights of Indian Christians. Twenty-two members of parliament have pledged support as the event coincides with a major parliamentary session. Their hope is to bring national attention to the escalating violence, the lack of justice for victims, and the systematic targeting of believers across the country. As persecution intensifies worldwide, the suffering of India’s Christians stands as yet another reminder that the birth pangs Jesus warned about are accelerating—and the global hostility toward believers is becoming unmistakable.
