Christian Villager Tortured to Death in Syria

Sep 16, 2025

The death of Milad Aziz al-Farakh, a Christian villager from Kfara in Syria’s Wadi al-Nasara, has sparked outrage after it was revealed he died under torture in the notorious Al-Balloon Prison. Arrested on dubious “supply violation” charges related to his butcher shop, al-Farakh was widely known for his honesty and good character, with no complaints ever filed against him. Local witnesses insist the accusations were fabricated, and his detention and death reflect the continuing abuses of the Assad regime’s security apparatus.

According to reports, al-Farakh was severely beaten until false confessions were forced from him, a practice long used to silence dissent and settle personal vendettas. Legal experts note that his alleged violation never justified prolonged detention, highlighting the arbitrary and unlawful nature of the arrest. His death underscores how a system steeped in corruption, fear, and impunity continues to crush innocent lives, leaving entire communities in grief and fear while exposing the deep scars left by decades of authoritarian rule in Syria.
