Greek authorities have arrested a 26-year-old Afghan national in connection with the murder of 38-year-old British Christian humanitarian Elisabeth-Jane Ross, whose body was discovered concealed inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Athens. Investigators allege the suspect, who reportedly worked as a cleaner in the building where Ross had been staying, confessed to moving her body after her death and is facing charges that include homicide, robbery, and weapons violations. Police say he later used Ross's bank cards to withdraw thousands of pounds before attempting to cover his tracks by sending misleading messages from her phone to family members. While forensic testing continues to determine the exact cause of death, authorities believe suffocation is a strong possibility.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly told investigators that Ross's repeated conversations about her Christian faith and efforts to share her beliefs became a source of conflict. This case represents yet another sobering reminder that followers of Christ continue to face hostility for proclaiming the Gospel. Jesus warned His disciples that the world would hate them because it first hated Him (John 15:18-20), and the Scripture repeatedly reminds believers that persecution is not an anomaly but an expectation for those who faithfully bear His name. Whether through government oppression, extremist violence, or individual acts of hatred, Christians around the world continue to pay a price for their witness.
