Christians Turning to Paganism in UK

Dec 3, 2025

A new study out of the UK reveals a sobering spiritual shift: among Britons who leave Christianity for another belief system, paganism—not Buddhism, Islam, or Judaism—has become the top destination. The report, published by the Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life (IIFL), surveyed nearly 2,800 people who recently changed their religious views. Of those who abandoned Christianity, 83% embraced atheism or agnosticism. But the next largest group—11%—identified with paganism, wicca, or generalized spiritualism. These paths often appeal to individuals disillusioned with biblical doctrine or opposed to Christianity’s moral boundaries. The study concludes that religious faith in the UK is “fragmenting,” with Christianity losing far more adherents than it gains.

For prophecy watchers, the findings reflect a deepening cultural rejection of biblical truth and a rapid embrace of ancient, nature-based spiritualities—precisely the type of deception Scripture warns will dominate the last days. Paganism’s rise is no coincidence; it aligns with a broader trend of Western societies turning from the God of the Bible toward mystical, occult, and self-defined belief systems. As Christianity declines in Britain, paganism’s revival highlights a culture increasingly drawn to the spiritual without submission to the Savior—setting the stage for the kind of religious confusion and syncretism the coming Antichrist system will readily exploit.
