Church Shooting Shocks Lexington Community

A tragic shooting unfolded in Kentucky on Sunday when a suspect opened fire on a state trooper during a traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport. The incident began after a license plate reader flagged the suspect’s vehicle. When the trooper attempted a stop, the suspect shot and wounded him. Good Samaritans en route to the airport stopped to assist the trooper, whose condition was not disclosed. The gunman fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle without injuring anyone, and was later tracked by authorities using aerial and intelligence resources.


The suspect was located at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, where he opened fire again, killing two women and injuring two men. One of the wounded is in critical condition, while the other is stable. Police suspect the gunman may have had a connection to the church. The violence ended when officers arrived and fatally shot the suspect. The Lexington Police Department confirmed that three officers discharged their weapons in accordance with department policies, and the investigation is ongoing.
