Combining The Rapture And The Second Coming Is Biblically Impossible

In a recent article from Harbingers Daily, Jonathan Brentner lays out compelling reasons why the Rapture of the Church and the Second Coming of Christ are biblically distinct events. According to Brentner, confusion over these two prophetic moments often arises from reading the Bible with a “panoramic” rather than a “chronological” lens, blending together events that Scripture clearly separates by time and purpose.


Brentner highlights five factors as to not combine these two events: (1) The timing of the Resurrection of the dead; (2) The participants of the Resurrection of the dead; (3) The meeting place; (4) The destination of believers; and (5) Sin and rebellion during the Millennium.


Merging these two events erodes the doctrine of imminency, diminishes the hope of the Church, and obscures God’s distinct plans for Israel and the Church. Revelation 19 depicts Christ returning in judgment, while 1 Thessalonians 4 reveals the comforting promise of the Rapture.
