Conspiracies Blame Israel for Kirk Shooting

Sep 15, 2025

Antisemitic conspiracy theories quickly spread online in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination on September 10 in Utah, with thousands of posts accusing Israel and Jews of orchestrating the killing. Within hours of the conservative commentator being fatally shot at Utah Valley University, claims of a so-called “false flag” operation flooded X, amplified by influencers, conspiracy broadcasters, and anti-Zionist figures with large followings. The Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism noted that such narratives routinely emerge after high-profile tragedies and warned of their dangerous impact on Jewish communities already facing heightened hostility.

Among the most viral claims were accusations that Israel “ordered the hit,” with some suggesting Kirk’s decision to host a comedian critical of Israel was the motive. Others spun elaborate theories of collusion between Israel and Washington, linking the timing of the attack to the eve of September 11. Prominent antisemitic groups and personalities leaned on familiar tropes, branding the killing as “IDF coded” or invoking the “Jewish Question.” These posts, which numbered over 10,000 and reached millions of views, remained online for days, underscoring the weakened moderation of hate speech on X and the growing reach of anti-Jewish conspiracy narratives in digital spaces.
