Cuban Pastor Face Prison for Citing God

Jun 5, 2025

A Cuban pastoral couple is facing a potential eight-year prison sentence simply for referencing God while advocating for their son during a military tribunal, according to Christian Daily International. Pastor Luis Guillermo Borjas and his wife, Roxana Rojas, were arrested on May 19 after speaking out during proceedings for their son, Kevin Laureido Rojas, who reportedly fled a military facility despite holding a medical exemption due to a psychiatric condition. The Assemblies of God ministers had been trying to defend their son’s well-being, but their mention of divine justice led to severe charges of “disrespect” and “disobedience” toward authorities.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide reports that Pastor Borjas told officials they would one day answer to God's justice, prompting the prosecutor to accuse them of violating a ban against invoking God in military court. The couple is now awaiting trial, set for June 9, as a military prosecutor pushes for lengthy prison terms. Their case underscores the increasing persecution of Christians in Cuba, where allegiance to Christ is often seen as a threat to the state’s Marxist ideology. Earlier this year, Pastor Lorenzo Rosales Fajardo was released after serving over three years in prison for peacefully protesting the regime’s human rights abuses.
