Israel is openly warning it might intervene in Syria’s capital, Damascus, amid escalating unrest. The Syrian suburb of Jaramana, home to a Druze minority, saw clashes that killed a new regime officer, prompting Syria’s government to surround the area. In response, Israel’s leaders threatened to step in to protect the Druze community, a rare step that could internationalize the conflict. Students of prophecy can’t help recalling Isaiah 17:1, which foretells Damascus’s ruin; tensions here feel like a page from that prophecy in motion.
Local Druze leaders reject outside “protection,” insisting they can safeguard their own. Nevertheless, Israel’s concern is partly fraternal. Israeli Druze serve in its army, and Jerusalem feels kinship with Syria’s Druze. The geopolitical stakes are high, as what began as a local Syrian power struggle could draw in Israel and even Turkey, which warned against Israeli interference.
Damascus has long stood in prophetic crosshairs, and current events seem to echo Jesus’ warning of “wars and rumors of wars.” The unrest in Syria, Israeli-Turkish friction, and regional chaos align with end-times expectations of Middle East turmoil. READ MORE
