Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.

Roughly 40,000 people gathered in Dearborn on Saturday for the Arbaeen of Ashura march, marking the largest procession of its kind in the U.S. The annual observance commemorates Imam Hussein—the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad—who was killed at the Battle of Karbala more than 1,300 years ago. For Shia Muslims, the event is a powerful reminder of Hussein’s sacrifice and a symbol of resistance against oppression.
To manage the immense turnout, Dearborn police shut down northbound Greenfield Road between Warren and Ford Road for several hours and directed traffic around the procession. City officials reported that this year’s crowd of about 40,000 participants set a new record for the Arbaeen gathering in the United States.
Dearborn, Michigan has increasingly become a focal point for the growing Islamization in America, serving as both a demographic and cultural hub for Muslim communities. With one of the largest Muslim populations in the United States, Dearborn is often seen as a microcosm of shifting religious and cultural dynamics nationwide. Public demonstrations, such as the massive Arbaeen of Ashura march drawing tens of thousands, highlight the city’s prominent role in shaping Islamic identity in America.
