Digital Nation Rising in Ireland

Mar 4, 2026

Ireland is accelerating its transition into a fully digital society. Under its Digital Public Services Plan 2030 and National Digital and AI Strategy, the Irish government aims to make 100 percent of key public services available online by the end of the decade. The initiative centers on a “Life Events Approach,” reorganizing government services around major milestones such as starting school, becoming a parent, securing housing, or registering the birth of a child. Officials say the system will streamline bureaucracy, improve accessibility, and strengthen Ireland’s position as a global hub for technology and digital innovation.

Artificial intelligence will play a central role in the plan. The government intends to launch a National AI Advisory Unit, an AI Fellowship program for public service professionals, and a dedicated AI Office of Ireland to oversee implementation of the EU’s Artificial Intelligence Act. A new AI research center, digital literacy campaigns for businesses, and international technology summits are also planned. With nearly eight out of ten citizens already using digital ID systems like MyGovID to access services, Ireland is moving rapidly toward an integrated digital ecosystem where identification, governance, and services converge online.
