Drag Nativities Replace Reverence

Dec 22, 2025

Progressive churches in Colorado and Washington are hosting drag-themed Christmas events that reimagine the Nativity through an explicitly LGBTQ lens. Foothills Unitarian Church recently held its third annual “Drag Christmas Spectacular,” billed as an irreverent retelling of Christ’s birth meant to celebrate “queer joy” and “chosen family.” Organizers describe the show as a sacred space responding to what they view as anti-LGBTQ legislation, intentionally reframing the Christmas story with drag performances and alternative themes.

This reflects a deeper shift within segments of the modern church—away from reverence for Scripture and toward cultural accommodation. By recasting the Nativity to mirror contemporary ideologies, these churches replace worship with performance and truth with affirmation. Scripture warns that in the last days many will exchange sound doctrine for what suits their desires. What is presented as inclusion is, in practice, a rejection of biblical authority—another sign of the growing apostasy Jesus and the apostles foretold.
