Earthquakes Rising: A World on Edge

Jun 10, 2025

Powerful earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are happening with such frequency today that they’ve become background noise in the media. Unless a natural disaster causes significant casualties, it rarely garners attention—and even then, the headlines quickly fade. The magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28, killing thousands, has already slipped from public memory. We’ve become desensitized to the constant death and destruction around us, but the reality is that these escalating events are far from normal. A recent swarm of over 100 earthquakes in central Idaho is just one of many unsettling signs that our planet is groaning under increasing pressure.

These swarms—clusters of small quakes without a central mainshock—are now becoming more common across places like Idaho, California, and Nevada. Seismologists continue to warn of the inevitable “Big One” in California, a catastrophic event that could rival scenes from disaster films like San Andreas. Meanwhile, major quakes continue to rattle regions across the globe. Just this past Sunday, a shallow 6.5-magnitude earthquake rocked Bogotá, Colombia, sending residents into a panic and forcing the evacuation of major transportation systems like TransMiCable. While officials may offer reassurances, the earth continues to shake with prophetic intensity—serving as a warning that creation itself is groaning, and the time may be shorter than most are willing to admit.
