Elmo’s X Account Hacked in Hate Speech Attack

Jul 15, 2025

The official X account for the popular Sesame Street character Elmo was hacked and began posting a series of antisemitic, racist, and profane messages. One of the most disturbing posts stated “Kill all Jews,” followed by others attacking the Jewish community, spreading conspiracy theories involving Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the Epstein scandal. The account, which is verified and has over 649,000 followers, also replied to users with similarly hateful rhetoric before the posts were removed.

The shocking breach prompted swift backlash, including reactions from U.S. politicians such as Sen. Mike Lee and Rep. Jared Moskowitz. A spokesperson for Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit that produces Sesame Street, confirmed the hack and condemned the offensive content, stating that they are working to regain full control of the account. Screenshots of the posts circulated widely on social media before deletion, highlighting growing concerns over social media security and the potential for even children’s entertainment accounts to be exploited for hate speech.
