Elon Musk: Phones, Apps Gone Within 5 Years

Nov 4, 2025

In a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Elon Musk predicted a future where traditional phones and apps disappear entirely—replaced by artificial intelligence that curates every aspect of daily life. Musk explained that within five to six years, devices will no longer function as communication tools but as “edge nodes” for AI systems operating both locally and in the cloud. “What we call a phone will really be an edge node for AI inference,” he said, describing a system where users no longer open apps or browse platforms—AI will simply anticipate and deliver everything they want automatically. He added that operating systems and interfaces will vanish altogether, replaced by seamless, voice-and-vision-driven AI interaction.

Musk’s forecast paints a world where personal devices become gateways to an all-encompassing intelligence—an AI that not only serves but shapes human experience. As he told Rogan, “Whatever the AI can anticipate you might want, it’ll show you.” Such technology could mean unprecedented convenience, but it also raises prophetic concerns. If every interaction, preference, and thought passes through centralized AI systems, the loss of autonomy becomes total. For watchers of end-times trends, Musk’s vision echoes Revelation-era warnings about systems of control that monitor, predict, and manage all human behavior. The path toward global dependence on artificial intelligence may not simply change how we live—it may redefine what it means to be human.
