Exodus Clue Unearthed Near Red Sea

Apr 24, 2026

A stunning archaeological discovery in Egypt is drawing fresh attention to the biblical story of Moses and the Exodus. Researchers have uncovered part of a massive ancient statue believed to represent Ramesses II, the powerful Egyptian ruler many scholars connect to the pharaoh of the Exodus account. The fragment, including the legs and base, was found at Tel Faraoun in Egypt’s eastern Nile Delta, not far from the Red Sea region closely associated with the biblical escape of the Israelites.

The unearthed section stands nearly seven feet tall and weighs an estimated five to six tons. Though weathered by time, enough artistic detail remains for experts to link it to royal sculptures from Egypt’s New Kingdom era. Archaeologists believe the statue may have originally stood in Pi-Ramesses, the grand city built by Ramesses II and often identified with the “Raamses” mentioned in the book of Exodus. Later, the monument may have been moved to another temple site where it was reused in ceremonial worship.

Ramesses II ruled from 1279 to 1213 BC and was known as one of Egypt’s most dominant kings, commanding vast armies and overseeing major building projects. Because Exodus mentions Hebrew slaves constructing the city of Raamses, many historians have long considered him a leading candidate for the unnamed pharaoh who resisted Moses’ call to let Israel go. While no discovery can definitively prove the biblical identification, finds like this continue to place the biblical narrative within a real historical setting tied to Egypt’s ancient power.
