Experts Warn: Storms Are Coming

Mar 27, 2026

Americans are being urged to prepare for what could be another impactful hurricane season in 2026, as forecasters predict between 11 and 16 named storms, including several major hurricanes. While the overall season may appear near average, experts warn that it only takes one powerful storm to cause widespread devastation. Regions along the Gulf Coast and eastern seaboard—including states like Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Carolinas—are expected to face the highest risk of direct impact. Officials are stressing the importance of preparation, urging families to stock emergency supplies, review evacuation plans, and remain vigilant.

Despite the moderating effects of El Niño, which can reduce storm formation later in the season, the early months could still bring significant activity. Meteorologists emphasize that storm frequency is less important than storm intensity and landfall location. A single Category 3 or higher hurricane can bring catastrophic damage, displacing communities, disrupting economies, and leaving lasting scars. The call to prepare is not rooted in fear, but in the reality that natural disasters remain unpredictable and increasingly disruptive.
