FBI Expands Biometric Surveillance System

Jul 30, 2025

We are witnessing an unprecedented and rapidly accelerating fusion of biometric surveillance and national security infrastructure—one that doesn’t distinguish between immigrants and citizens. The latest example is the FBI’s $128 million contract with Leidos to modernize the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, the largest biometric and criminal history database in the world. This system already processes millions of daily transactions and gathers biometric data from countless sources: fingerprints, facial recognition, palm prints, iris scans, voice data, tattoos, scars, and even behavioral biometrics. With the new contract, the FBI will integrate advanced AI, machine learning, and mobile/cloud-based technology to enhance speed, accuracy, and interoperability across agencies.

This modernization isn’t a minor tech upgrade—it’s a major leap toward a fully operational surveillance grid. The contract follows a similar $130 million deal awarded in May, further entrenching Leidos as a key player in federal biometric expansion. While proponents claim it boosts national security, critics warn that this level of surveillance—especially in the hands of an increasingly unaccountable federal agency—resembles the infrastructure of a digital police state. Combined with AI-driven analytics and the constant appetite of Washington's technocrats for “smart” surveillance, this isn’t just about crime prevention. It’s about control. What we’re watching unfold is nothing short of prophetic: a foundational layer of the emerging Beast System, assembling at breakneck speed.
