Feminism as a Rival "Megachurch"

Dec 9, 2025

Author and scholar Carrie Gress is sounding an alarm that modern feminism has evolved into something far more powerful—and far more dangerous—than a social movement. In her forthcoming book, Something Wicked: Why Feminism Can’t Be Fused With Christianity, Gress argues that feminism now operates as a full-blown secular “megachurch,” complete with its own doctrines, virtues, rituals, evangelism, and even a counterfeit sacrament. Rather than existing alongside Christianity, she insists feminism has become a rival system of belief that intentionally mimics the structure of the faith while hollowing out its biblical foundations on family, identity, and womanhood.

From a prophetic perspective, this mirrors Scripture’s warning of counterfeit gospels and deceptive belief systems that replace truth with imitation (Galatians 1:6–9; 2 Timothy 4:3–4). By reshaping morality, redefining virtue, and reframing independence as salvation, feminism offers a substitute redemption narrative that competes directly with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As Christianity declines in cultural influence, this ideological “church” rises to fill the spiritual vacuum—training disciples, enforcing dogma, and punishing heresy. What is presented as empowerment increasingly functions as devotion to an alternative moral authority, signaling yet another step in the broader end-times departure from biblical truth.
