Germany Moves Toward Restoring Conscription

Nov 19, 2025

Germany is taking a major step toward reinstating military conscription, signaling a dramatic shift in European defense readiness—and perhaps something larger taking shape on the world stage. The coalition government has agreed to begin the process of rebuilding the Bundeswehr from its current 183,000 soldiers to as many as 270,000 by 2035, with an additional 200,000 reservists. Beginning January 2026, all 18-year-old men will be required to complete mandatory questionnaires and medical screenings to determine fitness for service, laying the groundwork for full conscription of entire age cohorts as early as 2027. Officials frame the move as a response to “mounting security threats” from Russia and waning American involvement, but the broader trend is unmistakable: Europe is rapidly rearming, restructuring, and consolidating military power at levels not seen in decades.

For prophecy watchers, these developments can’t be viewed in isolation. Germany’s return to compulsory service comes as the European Union pushes forward with deeper defense integration, joint intelligence structures, and military cooperation agreements that increasingly resemble the skeleton of a future unified army. With the UK and Canada already participating in EU-led defense frameworks, the geopolitical landscape is beginning to align with the type of regional military blocs Scripture describes as precursors to the final global power structure. The echoes of Orwell’s “perpetual war” are hard to ignore—in a world inching toward centralized control, constant conflict becomes both the justification and the mechanism for greater authority. Europe’s military awakening may well be setting the stage for the prophetic alliances of the last days.
