A new GLAAD report claims that 41 percent of the 489 LGBTQ characters currently appearing across primetime, cable, and streaming shows will vanish due to cancellations—amounting to over 200 characters. The activist group, which has tracked representation for two decades, expressed concern that fewer series are carrying forward what it calls “critical narratives” for shaping public attitudes toward sexuality and gender. Despite celebrating a “remarkable leap” from just 47 LGBTQ characters twenty years ago, GLAAD lamented that the numbers remain below the 2021–2022 high of 637. The organization specifically noted that only four transgender characters will remain on renewed shows, calling for Hollywood to continue influencing culture amid what it describes as a surge in “anti-trans rhetoric.”
This cultural fatigue is not surprising—it reflects a society reaching moral saturation. After years of being inundated with entertainment that celebrates sin and rejects God’s design for gender and marriage, audiences appear to be tuning out. Scripture warns that in the last days, men will “exchange the natural function for that which is unnatural” (Romans 1:26–27), yet it also reminds believers that light still pierces through the darkness. The fading prominence of these storylines may not be moral reform, but it does show that hearts are growing restless under the weight of deception. Even in media, the spiritual battle for truth and identity rages on—a reminder that God’s Word, not Hollywood, defines human worth and purpose.
