A quiet revolution in digital identity is sweeping across society—beginning with children’s gaming platforms and stretching all the way to government agencies. Popular online world Roblox has begun requiring users to submit biometric data—scans of their faces—to access chat features and other interactive options, pushing what was once optional safety tech into mandatory identity verification. This shift means players must now give up something deeply personal—their biometric identifiers—simply to participate in what used to be anonymous online spaces.

Simultaneously, federal institutions like the Internal Revenue Service have been expanding biometric identity proofing to authenticate access to sensitive services. Programs that involve facial recognition and biometric-linked identity verification have grown dramatically, even as audits reveal oversight gaps and privacy concerns across platforms handling millions of people’s personal information. This combination—corporate platforms collecting facial biometrics and governments mandating them for access—represents a broader shift: digital identity is increasingly inseparable from biometric surveillance.

From a prophetic perspective, this trend matters because Scripture foretells a time when humanity’s access to society—buying, selling, traveling, participating—will be governed by centralized systems that require identification (Revelation 13:16–17). Mandatory biometrics are not yet the “Mark,” but they are foundational infrastructure: the world is being conditioned to give up what is uniquely human—our faces, our identities—to tech and governmental systems in exchange for access and convenience. As biometric data sweeps into childhood platforms and tax systems alike, the path to universal identity control is being paved. Watchmen should recognize these steps as alignment with the very structure that prophecy describes.
