Gruesome Christian Persecution in Syria

Dec 8, 2025

Christian leaders are sounding the alarm over what they describe as “gruesome” persecution unfolding against Christians and other minorities inside Syria. A formal letter, authored by Dede Laugesen of Save the Persecuted Christians, was delivered to President Donald Trump ahead of his recent meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. The letter was backed by prominent voices including Dr. Ben Carson, Eric Metaxas, and Pastor Jack Hibbs, urging decisive U.S. action. Matthew Faraci of the National Association of Christian Lawmakers confirmed the urgency of the plea, emphasizing that believers inside Syria remain under violent threat with little international protection.

Faraci warned that al-Sharaa’s past as a former Al-Qaeda fighter raises serious concerns about the future of religious minorities under his leadership. He stated bluntly that religious freedom is the “canary in the coal mine,” revealing the broader trajectory toward terrorism and tyranny when it collapses. Trump reportedly raised these concerns directly with the Syrian leader, while Christian advocacy groups continue pushing for humanitarian aid and international pressure.
