Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb has accused NASA of deliberately withholding a high-resolution image of the mysterious interstellar object known as 3I/ATLAS. During a recent interview on The Joe Rogan Experience, Loeb claimed that the image—captured by NASA’s High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter—shows details that could reshape our understanding of objects entering the solar system from beyond the stars. The photo was reportedly taken as 3I/ATLAS passed within 30 million kilometers of Mars, a rare and scientifically invaluable event. Loeb, who previously chaired Harvard’s Department of Astronomy, said NASA denied his formal request for access to the data, raising suspicions of a cover-up.

3I/ATLAS has drawn significant attention for behaving unlike any known comet or asteroid. According to multiple reports, the object emits jet-like outflows toward the Sun rather than away from it—defying established models of solar radiation and orbital dynamics. Such anomalies, Loeb argues, could indicate an artificial or unknown composition. If true, it would echo the earlier mystery of ‘Oumuamua, the first recorded interstellar visitor that also puzzled scientists in 2017. Loeb has long contended that these objects could represent technological artifacts rather than natural debris, a theory that continues to divide the scientific community—and one that, for some observers, raises prophetic and spiritual questions about what humanity is truly encountering in the heavens.
