The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah appears to be unraveling as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the Israel Defense Forces to resume major strikes against Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut. The decision came after a significant increase in Hezbollah attacks against northern Israel, including waves of drones and more than 50 rockets launched toward Israeli communities. Israeli officials stated that they would not tolerate a situation in which civilians remain under constant threat while Hezbollah leadership continues operating from its strongholds in the Lebanese capital.
At the same time, Israeli ground forces have expanded operations deeper into southern Lebanon. The IDF announced that troops have taken control of the strategic Beaufort Ridge outpost and areas around Wadi al-Saluki beyond the Litani River, locations long associated with Hezbollah activity. These advances follow earlier Israeli operations that pushed beyond previously established ceasefire boundaries. Before the ground incursions, Israeli aircraft, artillery, and armored forces conducted extensive strikes against Hezbollah infrastructure in an effort to weaken resistance and reduce the threat posed by the terror organization’s growing drone capabilities.
