India has quietly taken a major step toward state-controlled digital oversight, ordering all major smartphone manufacturers — including Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, and Oppo — to pre-install a government cybersecurity app called Sanchar Saathi on every new device sold in the country. Users will not be allowed to delete it. The mandate, issued privately on November 28, also requires phones already in the supply chain to receive the app through a forced software update. Officials claim the measure is meant to fight cyber fraud and track stolen phones, pointing to millions of blocked devices and fraudulent connections since the app’s launch. But the app connects each device to a centralized government database, linking location data, device identifiers, and network information under the umbrella of “national security.”
The most alarming implications lie in the precedent this sets—especially if Apple, long resistant to government-mandated software, eventually complies. A single concession would crack open the door for governments worldwide to demand their own state-backed surveillance apps be embedded into every smartphone, permanently and without user consent. What begins as “anti-fraud protection” could evolve into real-time behavioral monitoring, geolocation tracking, and digital profiling. These forms of centralized, device-level control echo precisely the kind of surveillance architecture Scripture warns will characterize the coming Beast System — a world where no one can buy, sell, travel, or communicate without being monitored. India’s mandate is not an isolated policy shift; it is another domino in the global cascade toward digital tyranny.
